I am following Dr. Pescatore's plan and have lost ten pounds in two weeks. It's not a miracle, it's not easy, but it is the right tactic for me, personally. The eating program is basically low carb, but also allows some servings of melons, beans, whole grain bread, etc. twice/week. An evening snack of refried beans with cheese and sour cream tasted as good as a dish of ice cream. Also, my body requires portion control and this plan deals with portion size. Not fun but necessary.I am succeeding at long last but not just because I'm sticking to the right foods and the right portions but because I'm dealing with my mental attitude and history towards food. Some people may be able to just follow a list of foods to eat and do well. Not me. But keeping a journal and reading Dr. P's "mind-medicines" daily have done wonders for my acceptance, discipline, understanding, and motiviation. I can actually see myself five months from now as a slim person. Truthfully, that never happened before. I read sections of this book over and over again. I identify with many scenarios. It's the tool that I needed and I hope that others will be as satisfied as I am. To address earlier comments, he suggests organic eggs, doesn't demand them, I don't measure my condiments to the spoonful and I don't take all the supplements he recommends, I use other plans' recipes as well as his and I am losing and shrinking and feeling good. I believe that the psychological aspect of this program is the key. For those of us who have had a weight issue for most of our lives, it's a blessing. Try it.

This is the best book I have ever read. It gives menu plans and such but it spends a lot of time on the pshcological reasons why we eat and also how to overcome that. Most diet books tell you what to eat but not how to control your cravings. This is the format I have searched so long for.

My diabetes was out of control, and the mainstream doctors and ADA was just making it worse. They were drowning me in insulin, telling me it was "okay" to eat foods and products that upset blood sugar, then telling me it was my fault I wasn't losing weight and keeping my blood sugar under control. Only two weeks after starting Dr. Pescatore's diet program (and his recommended supplements and vitamins that help your body process the insulin it is already producing)- my blood sugar dropped from over 250 to 122 before breakfast. And the weight is falling off without even trying- 20 lbs over the same period, now that my body is no longer fighting me. All of that without taking any insulin. And I am not hawking his supplements either- I just took his recommended dosages and order the stuff from a discount vitamin warehouse. You may be able to do it with the diet alone, I just wanted the extra support.

Not convincing!

Long been a low carb believer but have a hard time with it. This book helps to get the mindset.

Dr. Pescastore's unique bent on low carb dieting resides in his linking of the mind and body with his "Mind-Body Medicines": daily thoughts to spur on your reserve in the diet process.This book had a lot of good information, but overall I felt it would make life way too complicated to try to implement the diet as Dr. Pescatore laid it out. There were so many rules and measurements to make of everything you put in your mouth, that it would be much easier just to give up eating entirely. In this fast paced world, I really feel that most people just don't have the time or desire to go to this much trouble to lose weight and regain health, when there are many other books out there that tell you how to accomplish the same thing in a much easier format.Another non-selling point for me was the amount of different dietary supplements he encourages you to take daily. This diet could get very expensive very quickly.

Couldn't put it down. Gaveme a better understanding of the Impact Jackson had on America.

A true classic, written in the early 1800's, but relevant as long as men wish good to triumph over evil. Scott's style takes breaking into, as it should considering the language's evolution over the last 200 years. But once you have, it's as rich a tapestry of medieval life as one can find anywhere.This is the third time I've read the book, and I've probably seen the film a dozen times, and never seem to tire of it. This time, however, has had a special reward: Instead of having to guess or refer to a dictionary to understand archaic words no longer used or whose meaning has changed over the centuries, reading it on a Kindle, with a readily available, built-in dictionary has made this a special treat. I recommend it without reservation.

I read Ivanhoe and Waverly about 20 years ago and wish that I could find my Penguin editions now: this edition would seem to lack the many (many and detailed!) end notes (which, as I recall, Scott included with the work). Without same end notes, I believe this work lacks the appropriate (prescribed!) historical context and is uninterpretable.

This was a challenge read for me but well worth the extra time spent on it. The author has command of the English language and is quite the loquacious writer. I felt it was not a simple story with a hero, but a time in history which incorporates the different peoples of England with church, nobles and the peasantry. The author has been fastidious in his research for the time period in which the story takes place and in the end of the book has listed notes of his historic information and footnotes. This is a story of Chivalry so it includes Knights, battles and historic characters as well as the famous legendary Robin Hood. I also found some humor along the way. The author also has many phrases in Latin and French and I really learned some history in the process of reading. I was highly entertained.

I enjoyed this book. It was written just about 200 years ago and set the story of prejudice, bigotry, honor, and bravery into the 12th century with the likes of King Richard the Lionhearted, dastardly Prince John, brave Robin of Lochsley, and of course, the courageous and righteous Wilfrid/Ivanhoe. It is a rousing story, however it bogs down with the telling. The conversations drone on and on with lots of "mayhaps", "perchance", "methinks", and various Latin phrases, etc. thrown in. Yes, it is possibly true that people spoke that way a thousand years ago, but it sometimes makes for difficult reading and comprehension.Overall though, I give this book four stars because it is a good story. To read about the plight of specific downtrodden people in merry old England is a bit of an eye-opener. And to see that certain characters can set aside these prejudices and do "what's right" makes this a good story.This isn't the Hollywood movie version, even though the movie does follow the story, that concentrates more on swordplay and knights in armor to stirring martial music. This is more subtle and deals more with people, personalities, and inner strength.

Don't get me wrong. I love IVANHOE. And in any case, Sir Walter Scott will not be harmed by my one star. The ONE STAR is for this unfortunate edition. First, it's on 8.5 x 11'' paper making this book enormous and ridiculously heavy. But that isn't the deal breaker, the lack of book design is.Somebody dumped a royalty free book into a word processor, and spilled it clumsily onto a bunch of pages, using a sans serif font (really!!!!????)It's impossible to read because of the leading and kerning. Buyer beware.

Those who have seen the movie will see here how the movie took great liberty with this story by Sir Walter Scott. Lots of history, and an interesting story. Well worth reading this classic novel of England at the time of Richard I, Richard the Lion-hearted. Although they are not central to this story, it is interesting how the various familiar characters from the Robin Hood legend appear here --- Robin of Locksley, Alan-a-Dale, Friar Tuck, and the band of Outlaws. Good story and a classic novel! Rich in mediaeval history and the history of England in the days of Richard Plantagenet, his brother John (ultimately of Magna Carts fame), and the early days after the Norman conquest and battles with the Saxons.

This version of the Ivanhoe book is very difficult to read (the paperback version with the burgundy and gold cover). The pages are 8.5"x11", single-spaced, with tiny fonts. Some pages have zero paragraph breaks, which are also single-spaced. As an adult, I find it extremely difficult to keep track of which line I am currently on, without marking each line as I read them. I purchased this book for a teen, who is completely put off by this layout. The publisher's name is not printed anywhere in, or on, the book.

When I saw the title of this book, I was skeptical. There are so many (too many) books in the market about self-improvement that don't deliver anything new. "Its title says it's not another fitness book, but I find that hard to believe," I muttered under my breath. "Show me!"Guess what? It's not just another fitness book. In the entire first half of the book the author reveals much of himself--his losses, his addictions, his heartbreak, and his lack of self confidence. Over many years he slowly began to heal himself through a hard-fought commitment to fitness and spiritual enlightenment. Like the author, I've had crushing losses that left me depressed and without hope. I never really believed that fitness could be the way out. My spiritual growth in a Christian contemplative life has helped me to find peace but I never though it possible to improve my physical conditioning at my age (baby boomer).The second half of book, the "manual" section, consists of uncomplicated guidelines that are backed by years of experience and study. I'm impressed with the author's knowledge, I'm grateful for his commitment to helping others, and I'm encouraged that at age 71 I'm not too old to make significant improvements in my body and my state of mind.So the skeptic was proven wrong--it truly is not another fitness book.

First an admission of guilt: I start books, enjoy them, yet leave them before I reach the last page. I can come up with many reasons why this happens, but none of them really makes any sense so I leave it at that. Not this book that I read and (and reread some pages). The title did catch my eyes - which I thought “hmmm, I really want to read about fitness but in a not another fitness book!” So, I read it all and somehow I reached the last page, miraculously, What is appealing about it is the heartfelt and genuine stories of the author that take the reader through the pages in consistent rhythm of authenticity and deep personal conviction. The book goes through a personal journey that leads the reader through real-life stories to pass a clear message: Move. Respect your body. Respect your mind. Treasure the gift you have. I thoroughly enjoyed Steven’s journey and somehow made me appreciate and improve mine as well. Finally, I loved the collection of quotations sprinkled throughout the book. This book should be renamed to “Manifesto for a Better You!”

Titled “Not Another Fitness Book,” Steven Head’s narrative takes the reader way beyond the personal training clues he provides from his depth and variety of experience. The obstacles, both external and self-inflicted, and the too-many tragedies, but most importantly the willingness he has to learn, grow and understand why he so often got in his own way (as we all tend to do). The second half is the most unique fitness manual you will ever read, without a single exercise. The focus is on making sure that the mind is on-board with the body, that we recognize that we have tremendous physical potential at any age and are often held back from unleashing that potential only by our personal demons and misconceptions. Best version of the CPT book to have if you're a medical coder or if you have some position in HIM. This is the version that AAPC and AHIMA will most of the time endorse as a work book for coding outpatient procedures, and even for help with coding inpatient procedures. There are other versions out there, one of which I had for 2017, but I went back to this one. It's easier to navigate through, there are tabs in the book for you to add to help you find your sections easier if you want to use them, and there isn't any unnecessary bulk weighing the book down like other versions have. If you need your own CPT book, this is it.

I'm no newbie to the world of CPT manuals but this one is by far the WORST I've ever seen in 7 years of coding! Very poor quality! The tabs are USELESS!!!! Each one has adhered to the page and rips paper as you try to lift it from front page where they are located (and I am being super careful & gentle while trying to lift them--I NEED these things to work! See pictures below.) Multiple misspelled words through out the book. This book was not cheap but it sure looks it, I really expected better from the AMA.

I needed this book in a rush to take my test so I accepted the “used” 2018 edition.. thinking its the beginning of 2018.. How bad can it be?? Well it wasn’t too bad.. but I could have done without the bad printing.. mis numbered pages.. and nonexistent tabs.. but through all that I passed my exam so Im alright.. but I do know for my specialty exams...

The book is terrible. There are mispellings everywhere. Bleod instead of blood in the index and like others who complained, the tabs literally ripped out and had to be taped in the book. I would return it if I was able to, but now I have to try and find somewhere that sells it locally so I can flip rheough and make sure I don’t get one that is riddled with mistakes. Using it as is will probably be difficult to take my cert exam.

This is the second time I have written this review per Amazon's request. The reason I returned the CPT 2018 Professional edition was there were probably 20 pages missing. Mostly in the index. If you are a coder, whether certified or not, you know it is impossible to accurately code any medical procedure, E/M services etc without all of the applicable information. This book is one of the tools of my trade, and the tool had missing parts.

Material nicely presented. However, the newly opened book had to be dusted off as tiny paper bits fall all over the place. I still plan to buy the 2019 or 2020 version. Used to use the smaller cheaper James B. Davis PMIC books but now prefer the AMA version for both the CPT and ICD-10

i bought the book because the reviews said it was a great buy, even used. well it was not. my last pages are upside down so when i am looking for a code i have to flip the whole book around, it is missing page numbers. has a lot of misspelling, i now spell blood as "bleod" good luck on my exams am i right? also missing some procedures in the index so i have to flip through every single page on a section to find the code. overall would not buy form this seller again, i managed to pull of this semester but it was twice the work.

this book is always helpful to me for coding purposes and figuring out the next years charge master. However, the book always leaves debris all over the place from the pages. There are thousands of tiny white pieces of paper that fall all over the place for approximately 6 months.The content of the book is good though and always very informative.
