This is much more than a well-written account of a sojourner's brief passage through some of the wildest country in the lower 48. A wonderfully written, thought-provoking tribute to the increasingly threatened American Wilderness. Highly recommended.
Thought-provoking...educational...inspiring...entertaining. I'm running out of superlatives here. Burritt's tale of his journey through the Yellowstone ecosystem is much more than a travel guide--it's a challenging look at what's important in our lives and what we need to protect. After reading Outside Ourselves cover-to-cover in two days, I'm already looking forward to rereading it to see what I missed the first time.

A thoughtful journey with the author and his girlfriend as they take a summer off to backpack south to north through the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Starting at the southernmost entrance to the Wind Rivers, the author journeys through the Absarokas, Yellowstone, and the Beartooths on his end point in Gardiner. As a seasonal worker for the Forest Service, Burritt is familiar with the ecosystem. But this book isn't about his trials and tribulations, not a travel guide. Burritt muses on what wilderness is, overcrowding in the backcountry, along with thoughts about wildness and how to preserve it. Burritt treats you to not only his outward journey into this most wild, remote acres in the lower 48, but also his inner journey and musings along the way. A wonderful read.

Really a fun game for 3 year olds to senior citizens! Very entertaining & makes everyone laugh.
My kids absolutely love this game and it passes the time by quickly. I have a 4, 6, 8 and a 14 yr old. When they are bored, they pull this game out and can play for hours. I like the fact that the cards are large, it makes it less likely for them to bend or tear them easily like they do with smaller or regular size cards. I even have fun when I play this with them! This is by far their favorite game, probably because they can slap the cards. They have even re-invented the rules and created their own.
A fun game that my grandson and I like to play. Cute pictures and numbers on each card. Jack, Mack and Zack are the three names on the cards.An easy way to occupy the time with a young child. They love to slap the Jack.
It's another take on slap jack with a regular deck of cards. Smaller child seem to like it but some find it confusing because in a regulation deck of cards all the jacks look alike except for the suit & color the jack, zack & mack in this card set look very similar so they just slap them all.
Well... I like using a regular pack of cards better, where you clap for the king, whistle for the queen and slap the jack.

Please don't buy this book based on the reviews for the previous edition.While the contents are still good (and not much changed), the format of the new edition is downright stupid. They increased the size of the white margins and the thickness of the paper (to decrease manufacturing costs?), resulting in a probably 50% increase in weight and cross-sectional area. Definitely not a portable/pocket book anymore.Do yourself a favor and buy a cheap used version of the previous edition. You'll thank me later.

Read this book from cover to cover over winter break before the start of clinicals. (DNP, CRNA program). Was a very good review with excellent key points. Well written and compact. I plan on using this as my only reference to bring to clinical sites with me.
I like the fact that as one of founding editors (1st edition), Dr. Levin acknowledged previous contributors, like me. Also, the book only keeps getting better. The latest edition leaves this out, making the entire series the brainchild of Dr Richard Kitz, our chief. We were strongly supported by Dr. Kitz, but it was our idea.
Anyone involved in anesthesia generally recognizes the Mass Gen. as the best pocket reference out there. This new edition is no different. When you need something fast b/c it has slipped your mind, this is the 'goto' book.I highly recommend it to all MD/DOs, CRNAs & SRNAs.
Decent information, but it fell apart the first day I opened it. They also sent me a south east Asia edition... I'm hoping it's the same information.

I am just your average Dad trying to help others who want to pass the Bar Exam.Honestly speaking, I didn't want to write a review for this book since I am studying for the CA Bar Exam and really do not need any more competition than there is already out there; but, I want to reach out to those in my position who are in their 40dz with a full time job and family.Truth be told, I have purchased just about every supplement there is for the CA Bar Exam and all of them contain the same information with the only difference being in the manner in which the information is presented to the reader.There are excellent supplements for law school, but very few effective supplements for the CA Bar Exam, with this book being the best for those with little time to study. Why? Because this little gem provides you with a highly condensed summation of the black letter law, and potential issues testable on the Bar.I'll say it again, this book contains ALL the possible ISSUES that are TESTABLE on the BAR EXAM and is geared toward just that--PASSING THE BAR. Whereas, Barbri, Themis, Kaplan, .... are all geared toward overcharging anxious, worried, highly-stressed students that are made to believe that they need to spend thousands of dollars on information that will not show up on the exam.We have already proven that we know enough law to graduate from law schoo,l so there is no need to panic now and drink the proverbial "you can only pass with us" cool aid that big name bar review courses are handing out like candy on Halloween. Big name review courses simply just give too much information that you DON'T NEED TO KNOW to pass the Bar.To my fellow dads out there, don't make my mistake and spend needless hours, weeks burying your nose in the big Barbri books relearning everything you were taught in law school.Rather, study smart and only learn what you need to know to pass.Read the index of this book and compare it to the supplements that you may already have purchased and you'll see why I can't recommend this book enough. I am truly thankful to the people who produced it. My essay scores have doubled using this book.Message: study the black letter law for essays using this book; study for the MBEs doing past REAL MBEs; and take past PTs.Do this, and you will pass.Good luck on the Bar Exam.
This book was amazing. Let me start out by saying that I failed the July 2015 exam, and used this for the Feb 2016 exam... AND PASSED!! This book was seriously the reason for my success. I talk about it in greater detail on my blog, but briefly wanted to share my thoughts on amazon.This book included memorization attack sheets that are super easy to copy, and take wherever you are headed. Having memorized this book and also using Kaplan, I wrote 91 practice essays the second time around and honestly had little trouble remembering rules, unlike the first time around. During the feb bar exam, I had little trouble with the essays. I wrote out my attack sheet that I had memorized and addressed the essay accordingly. I spotted enough issues to at least pass the exam on my second attempt. HIGHLY RECOMMEND as a supplement to a main course. Practice + memorizing the attack sheets = passing!
After paying over a thousand dollars for a commerical test prep course (Themis), I failed every single essay on the July 2013 CA bar exam. With just this book and the past exams available for free on the CA bar website, I passed the February 2014 exam.I found that Themis' course wasted so much time "teaching" every minute detail of the law that it left me with little energy for the single most important test-prep strategy: TAKE AS MANY PRACTICE EXAMS AS POSSIBLE. PERIOD.This book helps you with this most-important strategy for the following reasons:(1) The rule outlines provide all the rules you need to know, written very concisely in the way the bar examiners want you to regurgitate them on the exam.(2) The book includes 6 sample essay questions for each subject with answer outlines that identify the "must-get" issues, making self-grading your own essays a breeze.(3) If you're having trouble with analysis, there are couple sample answers for each subject written by the actual author (i.e., not student samples) that you can learn from and practice imitating.In short, this book is the reason I passed the bar exam.
I, like most law students, was very stressed about the bar exam. Of course, I took one of the standard bar prep courses. However, this book was extremely helpful. I would go so far as to say that, if you are one of those people who does not need to listen to lectures, it is all you need to pass the essay portion of the exam. I was lucky enough to pass the first time, and I attribute at least part of my success to this book.The book has the following features:1. A very short (one or two page) outline of each essay subject.2. A longer, (but still pretty short) comprehensive subject outline. This is one of the best features of the book. I did not find anything in my exam (July 2014) that was not covered in this outline. Much better than all the outlines I got from the bar prep course.3. Sample questions and an analysis of the answers.4. General tips and advice on writing the essays.A friend of mine, who had failed on his first try, but succeeded on his second, recommended this book to me, and told me how much it helped him the second time around. I totally agree, and have been recommending this book to my friends that still have to take the bar exam.

These 100 quotes are on-target in that respect. You know they're not just "cute" or even wise sayings; rather they are tested and lived by these Christians. Most are long enough to provide real meat, not just pithy sayings or proverbs. Dietrich Bonhoeffer is an example of this, as are his quotes, forged out of a life and death witnessing to Christ in the face of Naziism.Of course for a short read, the author had to limit his selections. We know there are many more than 10 great Christians. There are thousands through the ages. But these quotes have been filtered out for us, exceptional gems of Christian wisdom -- not all pretty or reassuring, some hit home and can upset us to reform our own thinking and living. So each quote is a sermonette, an exposition of a crucial facet of a life of faith. To meditate at length on these quotes will deepen one's Christian commitment.All ten selected Christians are worth considering. C. S. Lewis for many tops the list: "To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken." I think you'll grow very fond and moved by the whole quote. In fact, I don't think I've found any quote in this book that isn't special to me -- a fine selection.
Ok. I will try one more time, as simply as possible, my reasons for recommending this book. I was honestly expecting this to be the same old over-used "quotes" and sayings we are taught over and over. However, you will be drawn to delve further in, after reading the first pastor/priest/clergy men of God's sharing of the wisdom they have obtained and intimacy they share after a life-time spent following our Father, no matter the cost. Expect to be convicted, deified, reading about faith, love and peace with our Lord; as well as a true honest desire to draw more near to Him than you may have considered ever before!For me, each one convicted me and I desired to stay on one until I had completely meditated on what each said, combining it with my bible. I also was very excited and felt very led to share each one with others.So - YES! I recommend it! A person truly seeking the Father, who uses this as a companion each morning will change your view of just how loving our Father is, which for me, makes me want to become even more intimate with Him than I am now.Whether a gift, or for yourself, this wil not be a book that ends up on your coffee table unused!

The wisdom of these great believers is thought provoking and makes for great reading, and encouragement. While it's tempting to read through I try to slow down and consider what jewels of wisdom these individuals of great faith have mined from their own walk with the Lord.

I read her book in 2006 almost every night after work for 6 straight months, passed the CISSP exam on my first try.Lost my CISSP credential 3 years later cuz I was too lazy to report my CPEs.I changed my mind and started reading the this version of book every night for the straight two months from mid February thru mid April in 2015, passed the exam and got recertified. A lot has changed for the last several years...!This is an excellent book. Her book has proven to work for anyone including those whose mother toungue is not English (I'm Japanese).I'm a slow reader as I cannot read English as fast as I read Japanese. Since I needed more time than normal people, I made an announcement to my wife about a temporary suspension of my husband role. I received a lot of what-the-hell-are-you-thinking-we-just-got-married-a-couple-of-years-ago types of questions and accusations. I somehow managed to win her understandings, and started living with this book for two months which seem to me like a year. I took the book to my lunch, starbucks after work, bedroom, car, and restroom (which turned out to be the best place to concentrate). Underlined too many sentences to the point I really could not tell what was really important. So I ended up writing summaries in the margin of each page, which was extremely time consuming, but seemed to have helped solidify my understandings. The exam was a lot harder than the paper-based exam I passed in 2006. And way harder than those practice questions in the book. I automatically and unconsciously hugged an old-gentleman receptionist at the test center when he handed me my test score.Although the book has many seemingly unnecessary jokes I couldn't even understand, the author wrote this book very well with difficult topics broken down into digestible pieces with lots of examples and analogies, which was very helpful and easy for me to understand. I am very shocked and disappointed to hear about Shon's recent dealth.Computer books are short-lived, and get old a lot quicker than dogs, but I would still recommend this book to anyone pursuing CISSP to at least build the foundation of info security. If a slow-learning foreigner with an ADD like myself can do it, then you know this book is good, and anyone can do the same (but you might want to do so before you get married ;-)
Well ... it's as fun to read as a CISSP study guide can be, but Shon Harris deserves a lot of credit for injecting humor wherever possible to help you forget that you're slogging through something like 1400 pages of "broad knowledge" study material.The chapters align with the specific subject domains of the CISSP, making it easy to focus more or less on the areas that you need (or don't need) most.Key points are clearly called out and often repeated, making them 'stick'.At the end of each chapter there is a summary that provides a bullet-list overview of the most important concepts from the chapter. Once you've read a chapter end-to-end, these lists provide an excellent review.Each chapter also ends with sample questions, followed immediately by the answers (with explanations!). The CISSP (like most certification tests) is about known the *expected* answer as much as it is knowing the *right* answer, so understanding the logic behind why one answer is better than the others is very helpful.Finally, at the very end - more sample questions! When you consider how expensive it is to buy sample test questions from (ISC)2, this is a welcome conclusion to a looooong but very useful book.
I was looking for a book to get me in the mode of studying for the CISSP exam. I read a bunch of reviews, and this surfaced as one of the prime study guides for CISSP. I purchased it, and it's huge. It's nearly 6 inches thick (maybe thicker). I travel a lot, so lugging it around quickly became a total hassle, but it is full of information regarding the CISSP exam.So, to be clear, the book is a study guide for passing the exam. It is not a reference for all things relevant to a CISSP. If you haven't taken the exam, or really familiarized yourself with the material, there is a huge difference. The breadth of material necessary to pass the exam is immense, and no single book could really do justice to the entire body of knowledge. This book skims over the 5 bazillion topics you need to be familiar with to pass the exam. If you need to actually KNOW something about a certain topic in any depth, you'll need to find another reference to augment the topic.What this book really taught me was that I needed a course if I was going to get through all the material. I don't require a CISSP for my job, and no one was going to force me to get it, so I knew I would never put in the time necessary to go through all the hundreds and hundreds of pages to get through it - and if I did, I would have forgotten all the stuff at the beginning by the time I got to the end. So, it was a $50 litmus test to help me decide to take a course. I'm sure a dedicated, diligent studier, however, could make great use of this book, and probably even pass the exam (I see some other reviewers have).I would also recommend coupling this study guide with the practice exam questions, CISSP Practice Exams (All-in-One). Of all the practice exams I took, with the exception of the (ISC)2 practice exams, Harris' were, by far, the most "similar" in terms of difficulty, layout, and verbiage of any of the practice exams I took. Both books in conjunction could certainly make for a formidable knowledge base for a dedicated person trying to pass the CISSP exam. Good luck!
