100 Christian Quotes by 10 Great Christians from Pastor Duke Taber was a joy to read. There are gems from some of Christianity's favorite saints and others from virtually unknown persons, but all are good thought provokers. The book is just a listing of the collected quotes. There is no commentary on the quotes and very little biographical information on the authors. Here are a few of the quotes I loved and highlighted in my version of the book."The real test of a saint is not one's willingness to preach the gospel, but one's willingness to do something like washing the disciples' feet -- that is, being willing to do those things that seem unimportant in human estimation but count as everything to God." ~ Oswald Chambers"To excuse what can really produce good excuses is not Christian charity; it is only fairness. To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable in you." ~ C.S. (Clive Staples) Lewis"If you board the wrong train, it's no use running along the corridor in the other direction." ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer"Destruction of the embryo in the mother's womb is a violation of the right to live which God has bestowed upon the 'nascent life'. To raise the question whether we are here concerned already with a human being or not is merely to confuse the issue. The simple fact is that God certainly intended to create a human being and that this nascent being has been deliberately deprived of his life. And that is nothing but murder." ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer This one has helped to solidify my views on abortion."Secular music belongs to the devil? Does it? Well, if it did I would plunder him for it, for he has no right to a single note of the whole seven. Every note, and every strain, and every harmony is divine, and belongs to us." ~ General William Booth"I notice that those who don't believe in uniting with a church or organization. I notice ya'll use electric lights -- that's organized! If it wasn't, you'd be electrocuted." ~ Aimee Semple McPherson"Remember something, God never permitted a difficulty to come into our life without also giving us the ability to handle it. God has provided us with every faculty. He has given us the power that we need for living victoriously. It is a fact that everyone of us down deep has what it takes to sucessfully meet whatever life brings." ~ Kathryn KuhlmanThese are just a few of the great quotes in this book. I gave the book a 4/5 stars.

What makes a quote "Christian?" If they are from "great Christians," I'd hope they automatically are little mirrors of full dedication to the holy life in God. These 100 quotes are on-target in that respect. You know they're not just "cute" or even wise sayings; rather they are tested and lived by these Christians. Most are long enough to provide real meat, not just pithy sayings or proverbs. Dietrich Bonhoeffer is an example of this, as are his quotes, forged out of a life and death witnessing to Christ in the face of Naziism.Of course for a short read, the author had to limit his selections. We know there are many more than 10 great Christians. There are thousands through the ages. But these quotes have been filtered out for us, exceptional gems of Christian wisdom -- not all pretty or reassuring, some hit home and can upset us to reform our own thinking and living. So each quote is a sermonette, an exposition of a crucial facet of a life of faith. To meditate at length on these quotes will deepen one's Christian commitment. All ten selected Christians are worth considering. C. S. Lewis for many tops the list: "To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken." I think you'll grow very fond and moved by the whole quote. In fact, I don't think I've found any quote in this book that isn't special to me -- a fine selection.

Ok. I will try one more time, as simply as possible, my reasons for recommending this book. I was honestly expecting this to be the same old over-used "quotes" and sayings we are taught over and over. However, you will be drawn to delve further in, after reading the first pastor/priest/clergy men of God's sharing of the wisdom they have obtained and intimacy they share after a life-time spent following our Father, no matter the cost. Expect to be convicted, deified, reading about faith, love and peace with our Lord; as well as a true honest desire to draw more near to Him than you may have considered ever before! For me, each one convicted me and I desired to stay on one until I had completely meditated on what each said, combining it with my bible. I also was very excited and felt very led to share each one with others. So - YES! I recommend it! A person truly seeking the Father, who uses this as a companion each morning will change your view of just how loving our Father is, which for me, makes me want to become even more intimate with Him than I am now.Whether a gift, or for yourself, this wil not be a book that ends up on your coffee table unused!

Read a couple pages has some value

Whether Christian or not, I think you will find a thought-provoking gem or two if you like to think about big ideas and principles. If a Christian, I think you will find something that relates to your experience or need. This little book is a quick introduction to some heroes of the faith that may lead you to more by them.

The wisdom of these great believers is thought provoking and makes for great reading, and encouragement. While it's tempting to read through I try to slow down and consider what jewels of wisdom these individuals of great faith have mined from their own walk with the Lord.

There were many quotes that I found were ones that hot home for me. The Christians quoted in this book are world renown and their quotes famous. It was interesting tho see which ones the author choose to highlight in the book

Good e-book to read and helps keeps me reminded of an awesome God. His loving kindness and his mightiness. Encouraging and motivational. An e-book that ought to be pass down from generation to generation.
