So each quote is a sermonette, an exposition of a crucial facet of a life of faith. I was honestly expecting this to be the same old over-used "quotes" and sayings we are taught over and over. Expect to be convicted, deified, reading about faith, love and peace with our Lord; as well as a true honest desire to draw more near to Him than you may have considered ever before!For me, each one convicted me and I desired to stay on one until I had completely meditated on what each said, combining it with my bible. I also was very excited and felt very led to share each one with others.So - YES! I recommend it! A person truly seeking the Father, who uses this as a companion each morning will change your view of just how loving our Father is, which for me, makes me want to become even more intimate with Him than I am now.Whether a gift, or for yourself, this wil not be a book that ends up on your coffee table unused!

I read her book in 2006 almost every night after work for 6 straight months, passed the CISSP exam on my first try.Lost my CISSP credential 3 years later cuz I was too lazy to report my CPEs.I changed my mind and started reading the this version of book every night for the straight two months from mid February thru mid April in 2015, passed the exam and got recertified. A lot has changed for the last several years...!This is an excellent book. Her book has proven to work for anyone including those whose mother toungue is not English (I'm Japanese).I'm a slow reader as I cannot read English as fast as I read Japanese. Since I needed more time than normal people, I made an announcement to my wife about a temporary suspension of my husband role. I received a lot of what-the-hell-are-you-thinking-we-just-got-married-a-couple-of-years-ago types of questions and accusations. I somehow managed to win her understandings, and started living with this book for two months which seem to me like a year. I took the book to my lunch, starbucks after work, bedroom, car, and restroom (which turned out to be the best place to concentrate). Underlined too many sentences to the point I really could not tell what was really important. So I ended up writing summaries in the margin of each page, which was extremely time consuming, but seemed to have helped solidify my understandings. The exam was a lot harder than the paper-based exam I passed in 2006. And way harder than those practice questions in the book. I automatically and unconsciously hugged an old-gentleman receptionist at the test center when he handed me my test score.Although the book has many seemingly unnecessary jokes I couldn't even understand, the author wrote this book very well with difficult topics broken down into digestible pieces with lots of examples and analogies, which was very helpful and easy for me to understand. I am very shocked and disappointed to hear about Shon's recent dealth.Computer books are short-lived, and get old a lot quicker than dogs, but I would still recommend this book to anyone pursuing CISSP to at least build the foundation of info security. If a slow-learning foreigner with an ADD like myself can do it, then you know this book is good, and anyone can do the same (but you might want to do so before you get married ;-)
Well ... it's as fun to read as a CISSP study guide can be, but Shon Harris deserves a lot of credit for injecting humor wherever possible to help you forget that you're slogging through something like 1400 pages of "broad knowledge" study material.The chapters align with the specific subject domains of the CISSP, making it easy to focus more or less on the areas that you need (or don't need) most.Key points are clearly called out and often repeated, making them 'stick'.At the end of each chapter there is a summary that provides a bullet-list overview of the most important concepts from the chapter. Once you've read a chapter end-to-end, these lists provide an excellent review.Each chapter also ends with sample questions, followed immediately by the answers (with explanations!). The CISSP (like most certification tests) is about known the *expected* answer as much as it is knowing the *right* answer, so understanding the logic behind why one answer is better than the others is very helpful.Finally, at the very end - more sample questions! When you consider how expensive it is to buy sample test questions from (ISC)2, this is a welcome conclusion to a looooong but very useful book.
I was looking for a book to get me in the mode of studying for the CISSP exam. I read a bunch of reviews, and this surfaced as one of the prime study guides for CISSP. I purchased it, and it's huge. It's nearly 6 inches thick (maybe thicker). I travel a lot, so lugging it around quickly became a total hassle, but it is full of information regarding the CISSP exam.So, to be clear, the book is a study guide for passing the exam. It is not a reference for all things relevant to a CISSP. If you haven't taken the exam, or really familiarized yourself with the material, there is a huge difference. The breadth of material necessary to pass the exam is immense, and no single book could really do justice to the entire body of knowledge. This book skims over the 5 bazillion topics you need to be familiar with to pass the exam. If you need to actually KNOW something about a certain topic in any depth, you'll need to find another reference to augment the topic.What this book really taught me was that I needed a course if I was going to get through all the material. I don't require a CISSP for my job, and no one was going to force me to get it, so I knew I would never put in the time necessary to go through all the hundreds and hundreds of pages to get through it - and if I did, I would have forgotten all the stuff at the beginning by the time I got to the end. So, it was a $50 litmus test to help me decide to take a course. I'm sure a dedicated, diligent studier, however, could make great use of this book, and probably even pass the exam (I see some other reviewers have).I would also recommend coupling this study guide with the practice exam questions, CISSP Practice Exams (All-in-One). Of all the practice exams I took, with the exception of the (ISC)2 practice exams, Harris' were, by far, the most "similar" in terms of difficulty, layout, and verbiage of any of the practice exams I took. Both books in conjunction could certainly make for a formidable knowledge base for a dedicated person trying to pass the CISSP exam. Good luck!

I decided to give this book a try because of the positive media reviews about it; as well as the 2 Amazon reviews listed here. The first 20 to 25 pages were unusual; like nothing I have read before - then the storyline began reeling me in, as I was completely and happily hooked. So, I am writing this review to let others know, that this is a very safe bet for an enjoyable time in the Monterey Park Wilderness that the writer creates for us!. Mr. DeForge is not extremely wordy in his panels - and sometimes an illustration will seem minimalist in nature. Then, I discovered that I was concerned about Oatmeal, and hoping Lisa liked the city, etc...and it generally takes a lot more input for me to summon these feelings! It is as if the writer is painting with a careful, very few, nicely rendered words - like watercolor brushstrokes - and they are so beautifully painted that you find yourself buying in to the entire Sticks Angelica world. It is a remarkable feeling. Truly different from other work I read; and I am happy that I found it.
Wooo boy, this was a trip. Such a delightful surreal take on graphic novels. Strange and bizarre without losing a sense of purpose or narrative arc. All the characters are quirky and lovable. Definitely a must read if you are a graphic novel fan. I'd love to see more books about sticks angelica and her strange animal friends. Maybe a lisa hanawalt spinoff as a young moose in the big city.
I have been a fan of Michael DeForge's work for more than a decade, and his most recent comic is perhaps his best work to date. Twisted and funny writing, strange and beautiful drawings, and a format that is reminiscent of Sunday newspaper comic strips. Not to be missed.

I already have some experience trading but wanted to learn more about swing trading. This book gave some very good information on how to do this type of trading and strategies you can use to find and make good trades. It would be good for someone just starting out trading stocks because it covers all the basics. It is also is good for people with more experience in the market but wanting to learn more.

I found this to be exciting because some of the trades discussed I was able to relate too such as trading CGC. I still have to review some sections to study and really be able to effectively realize these candle stick patterns he discusses.
One of the best compliments I can give about the book is that John has taken the time to integrate his trading set-ups and concepts throughout the book with numerous examples and over various time frames which reinforced my decision to ignore the concern about the book being only applicable to day traders.
This was a great learning book about swing trading. As a beginners i will suggest to follow this book. In this book you get all useful information about swing trading. All the information was so easy to understand. I will recommended this book who need this kind of helpful book.
This book is clear and concise. I appreciated the realistic advice and good examples. Gave it four vs. five stars because I would have liked more from the author. What he did provide was excellent.
The author explains various concepts intuitively which helps when you are starting and have an early interest in trading. It is a good start to grasp concepts and explore trading.

The back of the book was incredibly helpful. It tells you what the meter is for every poem along with some notes on some of the more difficult forms. It also contains a section reviewing all the important people you find in the poems. All in all it was a great book, although not something I'd recommend for beginners. Definitely an intermediate level book. The book takes for granted you've probably had a year of Latin or so and so you should already know the forms. There is a glossary but not all the words are there. A dictionary would be worth investing in.
Excellent student addition. Explanatory notes are very helpful. I would recommend this to any of my Latin students reading Catullus for the first time. It is a wonderful introductory reader. N.B. this text is appropriate for an intermediate student of Latin. It is not an English translation nor a book for beginning students.
I have only words of praise for this edition of Catullus, which contains the complete poems in Latin, as well as extensive commentary on all of them (and perceptive commentary, at that). There are also several appendices and an broad historical introduction. Further, I actually appreciate (unlike some reviewers) that Garrison has offered his own 'title' to each poem. It offers the reader a preview to the poems content, and makes it more exciting to translate (and thereby discover why Garrison so titled the poem).
Catullus is one of the greatest of the Roman poets, it's why we still have his poems around to translate and work with. The simi-dictionary in the back of the book certainly helps, and as always the commentary could use a little work.
"The Student's Catullus" is not only a great introduction to Catullus, but it is also just a fun book. Some reviewers have criticized this book as simplistic (i.e. not a critical text, useless for scholarship, etc). This edition was clearly not produced for scholarly purposes (you need not look beyond the title, duh!).Among other things, Catullus wrote these poems to be enjoyed, and this edition should be used precisely for that. The concise dictionary in the back removes the burden/necessity of toting around a second book; the brief notes on each poem's meter are useful (come on, admit it, you don't know all the polymetrics); the tidbits of information on each poem are wonderful. This book is just pure fun. If you want to enjoy reading Latin and remove yourself from the scholarly confines of crusty, dusty library stacks, then pick up this book, go to your local bar (or coffee shop...you fuddy-duddy), and start reading!
Complete, in latin, text of the poet Catullus's poems. If only the glossary was just a little bit longer.
Garrison does a great job with this book. As a beginning Latin poetry student, I found his notes very useful.
