It reads well and the table of contents works. In general I prefer the paid editions to the free versions, to avoid messy typographic and formatting errors. However I did notice that the automatic dictionary was somehow disabled, which was odd. The stories appear to be arranged by title alphabetically, rather than chronologically, with the notable exception of "Behind the White Brick".Note that the stories "A Lady of Quality" and "His Grace of Osmonde" are generally seen together.This author is most noted for the works "A Little Princess", "Little Lord Fauntleroy", and "A Secret Garden", with the latter being the most recognized today. As far as the stories themselves, well, most of them are timeless classics. They are tales with simple, noble characters, doing very refined and noble deeds. Think of them as primers for ladylike and gentlemanly behavior. Even the most scandalous and eccentric among the main characters remain honest and faithful at heart despite perhaps rough exteriors, and in general the true scoundrels are punished in the end with just desserts.
Unfortunately I have forgotten many of her novels (I'm 88 years old). Nevertheless I remember she was an easy read and perhaps she has been underrated for that reason. Her characters are more complex than you first expect. I remember looking forward to her next novel after reading the first.
