Stanton, military historian and archivist, has written the definitive text on the evolution of the U.S. Army uniform during World War II. Four hundred captioned black-and-white photographs (many previously unpublished) describe all issue and many experimental uniforms. Covered are dress uniforms, field uniforms, helmets, tropical and winter gear, boots, and the only in-print descriptions of Women Army Corp uniforms. Before the publication of this work, information on this topic was available only from old U.S. Army Quartermaster Supply catalogs, Phil Katcher's U.S. Army Uniforms: 1941-45 (Osprey, dist. by Stackpole, 1984. rev. ed.), or specialized military uniform periodicals. The only handicap is the lack of color photographs, but at $29.95 this book is a bargain and belongs on the shelves of all public libraries. Well written storybook with good pictures and citations , but not a reference book for historians. Text was not tied to images with specifics and good examples. Probably a great one read or gamer book.

Good volume on US WW2 uniforms...Makes a good companion to Stanton's book "Uniforms of the Vietnam War"

Pretty good overall reference

This book really gets to the heart of what was worn by the people who served our country.I really enjoyed looking at the changes over the years.

This is an excellent book on WW II U.S. Army uniforms.

A must for the WWII reenactor!

I find myself referring to this book frequently. Very good period photos and descriptions. A good starter for the new collector.
