I have been in law enforcement for over 40-years and have been schooled in subject control, self defense and (supposed) life preserving tactics by arguably the finest instructors and warriors in the modern world. While not minimizing the value of this training in any way, I must declare that there was always something lacking. Interestingly, I didn't know it was missing until I read (studied?) Mr. Hammer's well-written and obviously well-researched book on de-escalation. Calling this work "an Unnatural Act," I believe. was a stroke of genius. Why? I have witnessed slack-jawed as arrest teams and others have rushed into one confrontation after another "armed with natural emotions and warrior spirits and barely escaped with their lives in scenarios where cool reserve and a slowed-down approach was called for.I applaud Hammer's WINOLOGY "Unnatural" principles, techniques, tactics, strategies and tips on a tactical and professional mindset as opposed to the "Natural," personal/emotional approach to conflict on and off the job.Hooray for The Most Unnatural Act and maybe it will spur on police administrators to place more emphasis on de-escalation training.I mean, how many more Suicide by Cop catastrophes or so-sad endings to cops dealing with the severely mentally ill do we need?

This is now Hammer’s third book and in my opinion, his best! Hammer has been training de-escalation techniques for 30 years and probably was the pioneer in this training for the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has trained hundreds, if not thousands, of law enforcement officers and civilian health care professionals. His goal is safety for everybody involved. He knows what he is talking about!De-escalation techniques are probably more critical now than ever. Police/community relations are strained and trust in authority figures is compromised. Hammer shows the reader ways to defuse aggression in simple to learn and easy to remember methods. This training should be mandatory for all police academies and in-service officers. Believe me when I say that most (if not all) officers would welcome safer interactions with the public.I strongly recommend that you contact Hammer about attending one of his seminars. He is professional, knowledgeable and highly entertaining. You won’t be disappointed.

This book is a must-have for anyone, especially those in law enforcement, who want to know how to resolve a conflict without violence. I love the way the author ties in actual events to actually turn a topic that might be tedious to read about into an intriguing topic. I can't thank Harry Hammer enough for showing me the correct way to de-escalate conflicts in the future.

This book is extremely useful for the law enforcement professional or anyone, first-responder, social workers, crisis intervention counselors and more, whose position requires them to confront or interact with individuals in an unstable frame of mind.

I enjoyed reading ways for police (and civilians) to discipline their approaches, thoughts, and actions to get desired cooperation without escalating interactions to violence. I enjoyed the recaps of events showing how lack of this discipline can lead to unnecessary and ugly situations that did not have to be. The science portion of the book, showing how chemical reactions in the human body result in impulsive and destructive actions, was interesting in showing what is required to overcome human reactions to insults and bad attitudes. I recommend reading this book. The Most Unnatural Act Of All: Inside The Art of De-Escalation

This is the Hammer's third book. And I was just as happy with this book as the other two he wrote. If you are in the law enforcement field this book is a "must have"!!
