But TINDERBOX turned out to be just that. Written by Washington Post reporter, Craig Timberg, TINDERBOX shot down pretty much every assumption I held about the epidemic. Did you know, for instance, that the virus itself is probably tens of thousands of years old ... and was unleashed on humankind thanks to the depredations of fin de siècle colonialism? Me neither. Everything I thought I knew about the infection (as a white, heterosexual, reasonably well-informed male raised and educated in the US) turned out to be either years out of date or just plain wrong ... even embarrassingly stupid. If the truth about HIV/AIDS, a modern killer of unbelievable magnitude, is of interest to you, read this account.

I consider myself a well-read person, but I had to plead absolute ignorance on the AIDS epidemic before reading Tinderbox. Timberg's book is not only a page turner, but it educates and offers practical solutions to curb the further spread of HIV that are rooted in science. I hope public health officials around the world stop and read this book.

An amazing read for those interested in day trading. BUT more importantly to me, this book also provided a compendium of information for the everyday investor – everything from investor tax strategies, to portfolio diversification (including various bond investments), to long term low management investing, along with the strategies for day trading. And it covered all this ground in a readable and understandable format. Initially I thought I did not have the time or expertise to get into day trading, however, it has helped me to rethink, reevaluate, and update my current investment portfolio. And, then on reflection, I thought maybe I will also set a few thousand aside (with time on my hands as a current retiree) to see if day trading really does make sense for me. So I will give that a try too!And to the young man who wrote this book, I wish you luck in your future endeavors – and successes.

My piano teacher recommended that I purchase this book and I have started working my way through the pieces. The level is early intermediate and beyond.I like the book very much for a number of reasons. First, the pieces are in their original form and help is provided on how to play the ornaments. Second, the printing is quite large and easy to read.Third, a CD is available and I like to listen first as I begin to read. I purchased the CD separately and it is very high quality as well, with Kim Reilly playing all the pieces in a very professional manner.Fourth, I am trying to sight read some of the easier pieces and this book will certainly help me develop that skill.Fifth, the book is spiral bound and opens (and stays) perfectly on the music desk.Finally, this is completely subjective but I enjoy all the pieces so far.All in all, a great selection and the perfect supplement to any of the classical piano methods you may be using.
Nice volume of classics. Many pieces are easy enough for an early intermediate pianist. The CD that comes with this book is very good quality.
I really enjoyed this book so far. I started learning the piano a few years ago as an adult and a lot of the classical music you are given in training books such as Thompsons is not in the original form. Here it all is and with some effort you can learn to play it. As a Baroque fan I really enjoyed the first part of the book. It is excellent value and well printed and bound. I saw another review here which was very negative - the reviewer didn't like the modern selections. Well, even if you only get 10 or 20 selections you like the book is cheap enough and I quite liked some of the more modern stuff too.
Great songs, lots of simple classical stuff, but challenging enough to keep me interested and working at it. I haven't played thorough any of the contemporary pieces yet.Lots of songs. Most are 1 or 2 pages per song, which I like.I definitely recommend it for an intermediate pianist looking for great sounding classical music to work on.

I've been teaching piano for many years and find this book very useful. It contains many important classic pieces for beginners. Also I send students to piano exams, and there are many pieces which can be used for levels 2,3 and 4.

One of the challenges of being a parent to a toddler is managing the ‘chaos’ while not allowing it to suck you into its vortex. A toddler is a powerful thing. And if you’re not careful, he can take you down with everything else he pulls off the shelf. I spent 10 joyful years as a classroom teacher shaping young adults. But when I became a father who was in charge of caring for our son during the day, I was a fish out of the water. My heart was there, but my hands didn’t know what to do. The internet is surely not short of support in this matter. In my search to tame this wild beast before me and keep me from having a terrible no good bad day, hunting I did go. But my wife and I weren’t sure our budget could afford (nor thought we needed) the ‘promoted’ material, and our child actions didn’t seem to match the one dutifully sitting at the table threading a disc….we tried. He’d rather see what each did while flying through the air. More importantly, as a high school teacher, I learned real quick that students don’t like worksheets (that’s toddler speak for flash cards). They want to experience the world around them…in 3D. That’s what I wanted to share with my son. While also getting the floors swept, taking care of the laundry, washing the car, shopping for groceries, etc. That’s what Ayelet is helping me with…. “Simplification†and the means for me to provide my son with “high-quality interactions and opportunities to engage with the worldâ€. Most of all, for me personally over this last month (and I think this is probably the secret sauce that other books and blogs DON’T provide), is that she has helped me see more clearly that “we are already engaging in the kinds of activities that can make a huge impact on our toddler’s development….we already have the material we needâ€. Ayelet's words ring true for me; Pinterest can be helpful and fun, but we can’t forget that “it’s the experience of words, objects, people, and ideas in a variety of contexts, settings, and environments that support your child’s learning.†Ayelet helps you understand and know ways to do so. For me, it’s what Ayelet says early on that captures the essence and source of help she’s been for me: “It’s the way [toddlers] are able to play, the words that are used around them, the musicality of those experiences, and the movement of their bodies that supports†your child’s later learning. What she says next is where I struggle and she comes through like none other that I’ve read: “As adults, we often have a difficult time connecting these things.†I was comfortable in the classroom. But the home is not a classroom and neither is a toddler a young adult. And Ayelet has been helping me, not just navigate these uncharted waters but also enjoy the journey, as she puts it, “so you can move together through the years of toddlerhood.†That’s the support Ayelet’s well-researched material provides here. Natural ways to support how toddlers learn—“through interactions with us and with the objects in their environment.†Daniel and I carry laundry from one side of the hall to the other or go find a box we can get into and out of. We flick the light on and off, making funny faces when he turns it on, freezing when it’s off. We also go outside to stack rocks or see which is the heaviest rock we can throw, or transfer water from one bucket to another and back again….and again…and again. And can I tell you that trips to Target are no longer a rat race of getting in and out quickly so this little volcano doesn’t erupt? With him, I might narrate the process of what’s happening. If we witness “big feelings†in others, I’ll make comments to him and predictions about what might be going on, “That boy is jumping up and down. I think he found a favorite toy!†Play, Talk, Sing, Move. Those are the ingredients, the four pillars she provides. The book guides you month by month ‘for learning about your child’s development and what you can do to support it…that require little to no materials.’Since starting to read and apply the suggestions in this book, time with my son has been enriched. If you want to feel confident that you are supporting all areas of your toddler’s development, and doing it well, I encourage you to read this book.I do want to say that I took the opportunity to receive an advance copy of this book. All I know is that I’ve been waiting for this resource since my son turned one, and now that it’s here as he’s about to turn two, I’m so grateful! It is perfect for parents, nannies, and therapists alike.As both a stay at home mom and speech-language pathologist, and I cannot recommend this book enough. It provides an outstanding and accessible month-by-month guide to supporting your toddler through a basic four-part framework of Play, Talk, Sing, and Move, giving you the caregiver an easily digestible nugget of evidence-based methods for interacting with your toddler through this seeming mine field of development. I appreciate how easy it is to move through as a guide, so you can pick out activities that meet your toddler where he or she is, and it explains when and why you may be seeing a particular behavior or new skill emerge. Even though it is organized by month, I think the framework gives you the flexibility to create opportunities based on what your child or client needs to be supported in their own development.Two “lessons†have really resonated with me. I found two different approaches to tackling challenging behaviors very illuminating and reassuring. Each provided a practical approach (easy to make social stories) and a shame-free way to respond to throwing (the little scientist at work, performing experiments to see how the outcome changes in different contexts). These recommendations helped me change up the ways we had previously been tackling these issues to meet his new cognitive level. Additionally the Heavy Work concepts have also given me the courage to say “YES!†to activities I may have otherwise shied away from, like letting my son carry a bag of groceries in. Who knew that would spark so much joy by creating an opportunity for him to get one of his needs met? And it was free!This book has also helped me be a better play partner with my son instead of a constant director, which has been so much more fun for us both!I’ll be giving this book and its companion, Understanding Your Baby, to every expecting mom I know and recommending it to anyone who ever asks for quality resources for their family!

This is the third book I have read in the series. I like that each book has a unique storyline. This one has a whimsical side to it given the curse. Of course, as a reader, I know there is a happy ending. Now, the journey to that happy ending is what kept me up finishing this book. I do enjoy reading (and finishing) a good book.I like the characters. I like how straightforward the storyline is. No side stories. No minor characters outshining the hero and heroine. And I like that you do not have to read the previous books in the series to appreciate this book more. The story is well paced. This book just focused on the hero and heroine and how they worked together to overcome a curse. The innocent heroine “ruined†herself in the eyes of society to escape and engagement. The hero married her because her “ruined†state is perfect for his situation. So imagine his reaction to the truth. And her reaction to his “situationâ€. I consider this book to be a light read because it has none of the brooding and the angst and the misunderstanding and miscommunication that some novels capitalize on. This story has love, humor, family and hope. I like that there is an epilogue that focused on the makn characters but gave a hint of the next book in the series. Which I will, of course, buy.
The whole story revolved around the curse of the McLarin Lairds, it was intriguing at the beginning and the characters were engaging enough. It would have been good, if they have explained how did they break the curse. The prologue was about it, I was hoping that the epilogue would be the conclusion. Alas, in the end, it’s only all assumptions on the readers part. Maybe because Hunt married her when he thought that he was pregnant with another man’s child or probably because Clara delivered twins instead of just one bairn. Or maybe, they were just a superstitious lot and there was really no curse to begin with. Merely unfortunate incidents from the previous lairds. Moral of the story though was to live for the present and to not let the future stop you from claiming or doing what you want.
This book is definitely a new favorite for me! I really adored the characters and how they handled everything that came their way. The pacing of the story was great. The conflict was not overblown or frustrating. Instead, the way they handled their conflicts flowed naturally, and their love for each other was exactly what I look for in a novel. I wish I could crawl back inside it. This story gave me all the feels, with plenty of sexiness and the perfect dose of angst. It’s not often that I’m completely at a loss as to how a story will be resolved, and I’m pleased to say, the tension held through to the end. I just loved this book!

Clara thinks the curse is nonsense - but is it?I liked this book, but I feel like it could have been so much better, there were a lot of things left unsaid that I think could have added to the story. Hunt and Clara are both likeable leads and have an immediate chemistry, but sadly, I felt like that fizzled out a bit by the end and she never tells him she loves him, which was disappointing. On the upside, there was quite a bit of amusing banter, some warm to steamy love scenes and wonderful secondary characters that helped the story along. I must note that there were a lot of title/formal address errors and some inconsistencies in the story, but this was an uncorrected arc, so it is possible that those will be corrected by publication and therefore, I didn't take them in to consideration while rating this book. This is the fourth book in the series, but it can definitely be read as a stand alone with no problem.*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an uncorrected eARC that was provided to me by Edelweiss and the publisher.*
